The Greatest HD Rant of ALL-TIME Topic

This started the other day when Tennessee (my school) jumped on Jackson State (ThorKnight's school) for the #24 overall SG 24 hours into recruiting. Withn a cycle or two the Florida State coach jumps on the #106 ranked C who has very solid potential.

So now it's gang on JSU time? I hate this part of the game because of these ingrates. I wish people were more competent first day of recruiting so they don't have to resort to these tactics. They must have too much time on their hands.

A conference mate points out the SEC and ACC or very good but Thor should have alot of protection money

Its not how good you are as I'm poached by the turns of the conferences. And I've already spent some money fighting other poachers. If I would have had plenty of money I would actually go after their top recruits in turn. Not happy. as soon as one showed up the other one did too.

As Thor is being so vocal about his money problems another school (i wasn't paying attention to who) shows up on another one of his recruits.

and another one. How can I compete with four poachers!! fended one off early on. As soon as one shows up everyone else came grabbing my recruits. You simply can only do so much. This isn't right. I may stay next year just to completely ef with them. I guarantee tanner will have a world of hurt in Phelan coming his way. recruiting is about to start there. He's gone after numerous of my recruits and I've never once showed up onto his recruits after the first couple of cycles. It is time for major payback since his grudge has crossed now into multiple worlds and that all started every single other attack I've been under. And I thought by going after lower end guys would be OK and these losers would stay away. I deliberately did not go after anyone above 50 except one for that reason. Believe me jbas I was aware of both the ACC and SEC and how strong they are. I just never thought they would be desperate enough for my guys.

A day p***es and thorknight gets angrier as it appears hes losing his guys

I will now adjust my strategy. I am starting a list of people who have poached from me. I will deliberately start sniping people from their teams in the future. I already know of a few who have done it to me. It's time to follow on my words. I don't mind one, but when three or four do it just to take advantage It's ON!

A conference mate then asks of Thor thinks we purposely went after him

Post #5 by ThorKnight (The Greatest of All-time)
No just the person that started it mainly. In one cycle he must have dropped 30-40k as I was sitting on my guy pretty well protected. Out of nowhere he comes and I'm behind in one cycle although I have distance and prestige advantage? He had way easier targets to go after. He's not fooling anyone. He had NO advantage except he went for two cheap guys and sat on maybe 50-60 of the rest of his money. That person has had issues with me because I've called him out on the bull **** and he could not stand it. All I'm saying is watch out for Tennessee coach. I've called him out before on his other poachings. I've never once poached a guy from him but I can count quite a few he's done against my Cal team. Now that team is again even with him and he probably can't stand it so he thought he would put me in my place. He is nothing but a bully and I guarantee I will utterly screw with him next year no matter how many signings I have. This goes beyond this year. And like vultures the other two came in for the kill and grabbed the other two, they would have never attempted it as I had money over. I made 2 mistakes and I could have had more money to fend them off but still it was too calculated on the timing. He must have watched me carefully. The guy is obsessed with me. He has taunted me childishly and he is nothing but an immature 20 year old with no life except to try to mess with me. I mean who in the world goes to Syracuse one year makes the sweet 16 then deliberately leaves for a lowly Tennessee team within striking range of my team and that was about the time when we had some big issues? I mean come on. I'm done communicating with him directly. He is demented and delusional. He's snapped at other people and is very defensive and a paranoid mofo. I'm not afraid of anyone and at some point you have to respond with a dose of their own medicine see how it feels on the other end. Enough said.

As for his mention of the Cal/Stanford thing.

I think i've gone after his recruit ONCE. He got SO angry about it and how the guy was his player that I've spent the last 6 months taunting him about it. Every year after recruiting I'd mention how I almost went after one of his players but decided against it last minute and that just ****es him off more.

Oh, and up until Cal's victory at home this season Stanford had won 11 straight against Cal. I guess one win means hes even with Stanford now.

Its funny ppl just cannot hold back sometimes its better to be quiet then let it be known what you have or that is fazed you.
9/10/2009 6:01 AM
I don't get this idea of "poaching." It's recruiting, just because a player is considering you first doesn't mean you have exclusive rights to that player. Until that player signs he's fair game, if somebody jumps on him late and snatches him up sobeit. People really need to get over this idea that nobody can swoop in and try to grab a recruit just because he was considering you first.
9/10/2009 6:32 AM
Oh so its not a draft? hmmm (sarcastic)
9/10/2009 6:33 AM
I think I was one of the other "poachers". I finally found a decent SF nearby (in Arkansas), and I saw that he was considering Jackson State. Then I saw that Jackson St. was already involved in a few battles, so I figured it was a good opportunity. I signed the guy in 2 cycles for $20K or so. I guess I didn't realize he already "belonged" to this ThorKnight guy. I hope he doesn't punish me too badly.
9/10/2009 6:36 AM
Thats the cost of recruting. If I see a player that is close to me and the other team he is considering is in multiple battles or overextending himself why would you not target him.
9/10/2009 6:38 AM
tanner, I think tk means he's at an A prestige now, which is close enough to your A+ to claim an "even" status, of sorts. The history of this, as I see it, is that you went after 2 of his recruits in (I think) the first year you were conference mates. You signed one, and he signed one. He was very angry at the time, and you kept taunting him. I must admit, I wasn't a fan of your taunts then (as you probably remember), as I felt it was unnecessary and somewhat bullying. I'm still not a fan of bullying, but I've come to see that tk just can't let it go. I remember that for quite some time, after any mention you made of the incident, he would respond, then say he was done talking about it. Then the next time, he'd respond again, then say he was done talking about it. It became frustrating that he would not just do what he said, quit talking about it and ignore your taunts. Except for him, we all seemed to recognize (including you) that the only reason you were taunting him, was that it was working on him, and that it was ultimately making him a worse recruiter. And the thing he doesn't seem to realize (at least yet) is that you have done, and continue to do, a solid job avoiding giving him any opening, by going after few players and taking 1 or even 2 walkons whenever he has significant openings and/or cash. He keeps coming back and saying he's going to extract "revenge", but I don't think he realizes the cost to him if he actually tries to execute his plan.In the end, I think he's simply taking all this personally. In my opinion, this is always a mistake. My advice for tk is to remember this is a game for fun. And it's designed to be a human-against-human challenge. And a recruit is not someone's until he signs, and there is no such thing as unfair poaching. And all is fair in love and recruiting. Once tk decides to remove personal grudges as a decision factor, and to stop getting upset when others go after "his" recruits, I think he'll become more effective.

A solid rant........but nothing special and certainly not the greatest of all-time. I've remember one from some former coaches in the Little East complaining about not making the NT despite being ranked. That was much better.
9/10/2009 7:36 AM
Tanner....well done. Keep up the taunts and make him cry.....much like what I did to zhawks and mlatsko
9/10/2009 7:41 AM
I would poach from his B- school in Allen, but it's USC and I'm at D- Vermont. Oh well. EDIT in case blaank was talking to me: I announce said fact because I won't be poaching.
9/10/2009 8:04 AM
Pro tip:

If you plan to poach someone, do not announce it beforehand.

I am glad to see a Mississippi school forfeiting their recruiting future though to exact revenge on tmacfan.

That is one of the all-time best rants I've ever read on WIS period. I'm reading it for the third time and I'm still near tears.Thorknight (or any mid-major or low-major in the Southeast) was in a huge bind this year, because it was the perfect storm of recruiting in the region. The ACC and SEC **both** had a ton of scholarships available, a boatload of extra cash from deep tourney runs. The minute an ACC or SEC school lost a battle, they'd go find a backup plan, who very often is already considering another school in the region with less cash.Any team East of the Mississippi and South of the Mason-Dixon line should have been aware of that. The Sun Belt apparently did, and it looks like they recruited fairly well again.Back to the rant.... I still rolling.....RE: "The List"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XIFlNXqk5QRe: He is just a bullyI immediately think of the Lou Henson meltdown.... It is in fact Bobby Knight who is the master manipulator. As former Illinois head coach Lou Henson once said after an altercation with Knight, "He's just a cl***ic bully . . .everyone in that state (Indiana) is intimidated by him." Re: Him referencing Tannermcc's Stanford team poaching his Cal team multiple times
9/10/2009 8:57 AM
Look out tanner is trying to poach the ACC in Knight!

Please don't confuse your stupidity and irrationality with taunting.
