And, again, the rationale behind the rule in MLB isn't equally applicable to HBD.

Then you should have no trouble providing evidence of this occuring more recently than Babe Ruth. Please list me 3 Yankees in the last 5 years that have been sold.

How is this not a simple 'majority rules' situation? Each world's owners have the power to veto trades. If the majority of owners in the given world veto the trade, it doesn't happen and the world has collectively said they don't like the practice. Another world's owners might not give a damn and thus it happens. I don't understand why this is a discussion outside of a particular world's set of owners.

Because people like to beat the dead horse.I'm pretty sure most worlds have established their guidelines. If the world you're in goes against what you believe, I can direct you to the cl***ifieds. Lots of worlds are looking for owners. I bet you can find one that feels how you feel.

I'm not sure if you were directing that me or just any reader of this discussion. I have no problem with whatever the majority is in my world. My point was your point. Anyone that has a problem dealing with the majority of owners in their world is free to leave and join another one. I don't see why anyone cares whether or not it mirrors RL MLB. A lot of stuff in this game (or any other) doesn't reflect RL.

Isn't the point of this game to mimic MLB as closely as possible?
9/10/2009 6:54 AM
It was directed at you. You asked a rhetorical question. I answered it and gave a brief explanation as to why there shouldn't be a discussion.

Yes, but there will always be stuff that doesn't get mimicked. And when each world has the power to implement this particular 'feature', I don't see why it is a problem/discussion.

Yeah, that's why we have budgets just like MLB.
9/10/2009 7:06 AM
Good point. I know I'd like to play with a 50m budget against a team with a 250m budget. That would be fun!

Now we're getting *way* off topic, and I know you meant it as sarcasm, but in SLB H2H play, that actually is fun. There are few things as satisfying on this website as knocking off some blowhard with a $255M lineup of hall of famers by using a $40M or $60M cap team that is simply designed better. As far as "people" saying it happens all the time, I agree they shouldn't be sayin that (since it doesn't with top flight guys or huge amount of money). By the same token, other "people" shouldn't be trotting out the MLB rule as a reason why it shouldn't be allowed in HBD.
9/10/2009 7:17 AM
So it sounds like most of us are in agreement. It should NOT be a HBD imposed rule, but up to each world's owners. And if you disagree with the majority in your world, leave it.Sounds good to me.
