I read one post that said that Recruiting has gone from being ridiculously easy in Year 1 of Beta to being brutally difficult now…
However, even with the infamous "Red Light" restriction on D3 coaches, I am still of the opinion that Recruiting can be too easy for D3 programs.
This past season, I didn't even bother spending Attention Points on D3 players. I signed three D2 players with decent potential at the start of Period 2 and one D1 player as soon as the final 24-hour window opened.
Signing players above your own Division should be possible; however, I feel that it should be a much rarer occurrence and a D3 Coach should really be taking a RISK when focusing on these recruits because there should be a decent likelihood that he/she could come up completely empty in the process.
Therefore, I believe that the element that needs fixing the most is the SIM Recruiting logic. I have noticed that numerous recruits are being pursued by 8-10 SIMs for long periods of time while other, seemingly-comparable, recruits attract no initial attention at all. This tells me that: 1) most (all?) SIMS use similar logic in selecting the initial recruits that they target; and 2) SIMs do not change their focus/strategy rapidly enough in light of the competition they are facing. Not only does this result in many opportunities for a human-controlled D3 schools to target D1 and/or D2 caliber talent without initial opposition, but also makes it hard for those D3 schools to get overtaken when the D1 or D2 SIMs finally change their direction late in the game.
If a human can see the futility of staying in a battle with 9 other teams, many of which have higher prestige ratings (or other factors), why can't a SIM act the same way and "test the waters" on other targets? Either that or have SIMs spread out their Attention Points over a greater number of targets early in the game so that they have some contingency plans in place.

Sim recruiting logic needs improved. Maybe have every sim team attempt to recruit at least one player from a higher divisional level each season. At D1 maybe a D prestige goes after 3 star player and maybe a C on up prestige goes after 4 star to EE caliber players. Limit sim competitions to 4-5 teams. If there are 4-5 sims on one player then the next sim moves to another player. That will limit sims piling on one player and missing out other players they could use.

1. you might want to divide this discussin into a DI thread and separately a D2/D3.
2. need a fix for EE - the measure of success is that it should be possible for a coach who loses an EE to recruit a reasonable D1 talent in his place
3. my suggested EE fix - one or two no signing cycles at start of recruiting period 2 and bonus AP for each EE
4. another option - announce EEs sooner -
5. need better filtering and sorting tools - they just dont seem to work well

Definitely need to address early entries. Is it possible to just remove them entirely?

The early entries problem is huge to those of us who play Div 1. It is really unacceptable to leave it like it is presently. Either eliminate ees or announce ees prior to recruting.

I also think that 5 star players should not be looking for rebuilds.

None of these are big changes...seems like most of the big ones have been hit on already. But some things I'd still like to see:
  • Drag and Drop Targets Page (definitely my #1)
  • Exclude walk-on ratings from team total rating and average ratings (makes it easier to compare your opponent)
  • Be able to compare recruits from your target list
  • Reminder email to schedule non-conference games if you haven’t filled all spots
  • On the recruiting page under roster I wish it would only show the players on your team that are projected to return for next season “Ohio St. Projected Roster” (i.e. Don't need to see the players who are graduating)
  • If you offer an ineligible player start/minutes (in the current game I do this automatically because you aren't held to it) it should carryover to their first eligible season. This should also weigh in their decision to come to your school rather than go JUCO.
Thanks for adding the ability to change the AP's easier!

oh, yes, wants rebuild is silly - replace it with wants improving program - where the measure is the delta of wins in prior season or two seasons in percentage change. So a team that went from two wins to six wins would be a good place to

I think the solution for EE's to go with is to allow a cycle or two of no signings before session 2 to allow those coaches a chance to jump on recruits before they sign. With EE's you have two ways to go about filling your roster. 1. Use attention points in session 1 to give attention to recruits who are waiting until session 2 to sign. This will open up actions. Then 2, with a new non-signing recruiting period, you have the extra funds to go find some recruits. Just like in real life, the best recruits may be gone.

Careful ... you don't want to make sims worse than ever for a coach thinking of changing jobs, or there will be too little movement.

In D3, I am trying a strategy of going after as many D1 recruits as possible with minimal effort, so as to be moderate, then focusing on ones I know I want, but hopefully having a lot available to get on the last day, and especially the last couple of cycles when I don't have to unlock scholarships. I currently have about 50 D1 programs at moderate interest, but am finding one or two per cycle get jumped on by D2 and D1 teams.
