What'd I do? My concern was that it would divert kids who might be spending time learning the actual instrument. I said nothing disparaging towards The Beatles. Oh yeah, learn to read, jagoff!!

Great thread muddy! Well Juicester, my CD has to have at least 20 songs (and I could name many more) I remember watching the Ed Sullivan Show when the Beatles made their American debut.Ok...in no particular order:Back in the USSRShe's a WomanWhile My Guitar Gently Weeps (maybe Harrison's greatest work)Come TogetherRevolutionGet BackLady MadonnaHelter SkelterThe Night BeforeTax ManPaperback WriterWe Can Work it OutYou're Gonna Lose That GirlDrive My CarLet it BeI'm a LoserFrom Me to YouAll My LovingDay TripperTie-Something/Here Comes the Sun (Both Harrison songs)

..when you hear stories such as how Harrison came up with the lyrics to Savoy Truffle while sitting in his hotel room, bored, reading the box of, yes, truffles in the room - and then listening to that song - that, to me, is what makes them special.

Clapton played the solos on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

I gotta say though, if I had to narrow it down to just one song that just totally kicks *** (for me), I've got to go withDAY TRIPPER!Whenever you hear the opening chords, it's got you. There isn't a person in the Western World who doesn't recognize it (at least noone I'd ever want to ***ociate with).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwmtNk_Yb2Q&feature=relatedYou know, McCartney is a southpaw - I wonder if he's ever played second base?

True...the song didn't really come together until George asked his friend to play lead. I was mainly talking about the song in general...lyrics/music.The song was ranked #135 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time and #7 on their list of the 100 greatest guitar songs of all time

I, too, play and teach guitar (though admittedly it isn't my "job") and to say that the Beatles were crap in any facet of the music they created is absolutely ludicrous. Is it super difficult? No. Is it creative, and - at the time - new? Absolutely. To say it is thievery from Delta Blues shows that you don't even really understand Delta Blues, or the 60s Rock 'n Roll twist which they put on it (i.e., created). Many scales, predominant riffs and melodies cross, but they are not used in the same way. I saw a show on VH1 a few years back where they were interviewing Billy Joel and he commented on how he was in an elevator one day and heard a very familiar melody, recognized it as his own song (can't remember which one, but it was an 80s poppy one), elevator-ized, then had an, "OH, SH*T!" moment when he realized it was actually Bach. Did Billy Joel steal that pop song from Bach? Clearly not, but each piece of new music has elements of other music in it.And the Beatles didn't just dominate music, (14 songs on the top 100 at one point in 64), they changed the style of what was considered popular music (call it pure "Pop", that's fine). Check out the Billboard top 200 in 1962 or 1963 and then in mid to late 1964. See anything different?I would post my personal top 20, but it would likely turn into a top 200 or so (there are bound to be 5-10 songs that I could put on the "don't like" list). I will say that agree that While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Clapton is one of the best.

Oh, and I have been more drawn to the Guitar Hero line of games (play them with my 4-year old), but I will definitely be picking this one up.

Playing guitar hero doesn't discourage or hinder anyone playing the real thing. It gets kids focused on music, developes a strong sense of rhythm, and hand cordination. Is it a revolutionary system in musical mastery? No, but it helps (especially with rhythm) more than it hinders. I've played intruments long before I ever picked up a gutiar hero thingy, but I could sense that someone who had never played the real deal might want to after playing the game.

Was trying to stay out of this because I am more p***ionate about Beatle music than I am about the Mets. You know we can't all like the same thing. If you don't like them, or their music just isn't your cup of tea, thats fine. But some of the things said here are just stupid. You would think someone with a username that is a musical reference like eminor wouldn't say somethings so retarded. On the other hand I expect it from augie. Everytime I read something he posts I feel dumber. How many hit songs did they have? How many #1 songs? How many top 10 songs? How many albums did they sell? Can millions and millions of people all be wrong? The Beatles were the greatest of all time. Period.
